Moonflares

Last winter I came across a gorgeous photo in Harper’s Magazine of a spiderweb shining in the moonlight (redrawn below). It inspired me to figure out how to work up textures and layers over a black background to create imagery that fell somewhere between a weird moonlit photo and a black velvet painting. I quite enjoyed playing with the images below, and will be incorporating some of this stuff into the new illustration project I start next week. Click to enlarge.
